The ITIL Intermediate courses have been around for some time now but are still causing people confusion. Let me try and clarify the situation. The APMG rules are that to achieve the ITIL 'Expert' qualification you can take any combination of Intermediate Lifecycle and Capability modules to gain at least 17 points, prior to attending a MALC course and passing the exam. You can also add any credits from ITIL version 2 and complementary course exams you have passed.
Our advice would be that to ensure you have the best possible chance of passing the MALC exam you should gain as broad a range of knowledge as possible and therefore avoid a combination of courses which overlap. APMG originally suggested 6 different combinations, which I feel still give the best spread of knowledge and these are detailed below.
It is also worth mentioning that the 3 day Lifecycle courses focus on implementation and improvement, whereas the 5 day Capability courses focus more on the practical aspects of carrying out the processes on a daily basis. At the end of the day the choice is yours. You can check your current credit count on the credit profiler below.
